Description

Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park (FPMSP) was originally created in order to save the park from permanent closure. In May 2011, the California parks department named 70 parks, including Palomar, that were to be shuttered by June 30 2012 due to budget problems. However, a citizen cavalry came to the rescue, raising money and reaching an agreement with State parks to keep Palomar open.

We're currently operating as an arm of CRSPIA (Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Interpretive Association), the non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that has supported Palomar for over two decades. We're registered with the County of San Diego as a legally recognized division of CRSPIA (dba). However, it is our intention to become our own non-profit, and we are currently applying for 501c3 status.

In addition to raising money to supplement the park's operating budget and make much needed improvements, we also offer our skills to help promote the park and park events. Channels include: traditional media, social media, websites (x2), and community outreach. This is where we need volunteers.
