Mission Statement

The mission of the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation is to provide outreach to fatherless children and young adults by promoting educational enrichment, one-on-one mentoring and global service initiatives that will cultivate the next generation of responsible leaders.

Description

The decision to create the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation was an easy one for us. We wanted to do something that allowed us to take necessary action to cultivate our youth in healthy, supportive, and inspiring ways.

In our eyes, it's unacceptable to see a need, have the ability to fill it, and then turn a blind eye. Our children in our communities need us badly. They desire better education, eye-opening cultural experiences, and mentors, who can influence them and expose them to endless possibilities.

Our foundation is based upon the notion of 'reaching back to pull someone forward' and our motto is "fostering excellence in children." Plain and simple, our goal is to provide initiatives that address our children's needs and that help them reach their goals.

Statistics show that:

  • Of all the African American fourth graders, 58% are functionally illiterate
  • 85% of African American children are reading below grade point level
  • In some states, 80% of our African American boys drop out of high school before graduating
  • 7% of all African American babies are born to a young girl under the age of 18
  • Every day, 1,000 African American children are arrested

Our programs and services are designed to provide our children with opportunities and tools to pursue a better understanding of themselves and their communities through education, mentoring, self-awareness and positive role models. Our core goal is to pair our children with mentors who are committed to their success by giving them what they need most, "time".

In addition, it was critical to develop scholarships that are targeted toward students who may not have the resources to go to college or to complete their degrees after they've begun.

We believe that if we provide programs to our youth that expose them to education, college preparation, higher education, entrepreneurship, and important life skills, we can help them more effectively meet the day to day challenges affecting their self esteem, development and their futures.

I have been a follower of Steve over a number of years and salute him for the work he does with young men and the challenges they face. I am a recently retired Headmaster of a large boys school in South Africa. I want to help out here in a similar way. Can you help with info ?

Good evening, I know you probably get millions of messages so this too will probably go unseen, but its worth a try for my children. Long short after leaving a physically abusive marriage which my children witnessed I relocated from Chicago to Florida to escape. I met who I thought was the love of my life in 2004 and married him in 2006. It was amazing how a man stepped in to be a father to my 3 daughters, 9, 4 and 3 and son who was 1 month old. In 2015 i found out he molested all of my girls and actually had sex witj my oldest. My girls now 21, 18, 16 and my son 13 not only lost the only father they knew, but are emotionally screwed up and the youngest girl and my son need mentoring. I don't have a lot of money but I would really appreciate them being invited to your mentoring programs. I pray this message reaches you.

I grew up in a single parent family. I've been successful due to support from individuals in the community where I grew up. Consequently, I have worked in non-profit community arts and education supporting youth and families and I am confident that the mission and vision of this program will forever change lives and leave a lasting positive impact on our communities.

I love what you do and how you drastically change lives of others. When I give people advice. I always quote i learned it from Steve Harvey or first hand. I would love to volunteer. I know that I'm destine to do something more then just fix computers or swim. And I feel it's to change someones life as you have.

I have not yet volunteered but I am very very interested in doing so. Seeing the impact that this foundation has on the youth is truly amazing. I am not rich, I am not famous and I do not need any praise or attention for helping and I can clearly see that the Harvey Foundation has pure hearts that can relate. The opportunity to mentor and help our youth can change both my life and someone else's.

I believe that mentoring boys in the community is imperative. There are so many fatherless sons who need someone to look up to and interact with for positive reinforcement. I am an ex-felon that served 3 years in federal prison but now I am a licensed attorney in Buffalo, NY. If I would of had more guidance as a youth, I may have never strayed. I am also a Deacon and servant leader at my church's Boys 2 Men mentoring ministry. Thank you

Even though I haven't volunteered yet I would recommend this organization because they seem like really genuine, kind, loving and blessed people that are making a difference in young ladies, young men and their parents lives. I would love to volunteer soon because I have worked around kids myself and been a mentor to them from Elementary, Middle and High School students. Also, I have 3 kids of my own (son 21, daughter 17, daughter 8). My husband whom is a Veteran of the United States Air Force and I are high school sweethearts, and we hope to open our own community center one day to help people in need. We admire what Mr. Steve and Mrs. Marjorie Harvey are doing and we would love to be apart of a wonderful organization like the Harvey Foundation! Their family is beautiful inside and out from what I see, and may God continue to bless their foundation, their family and everything else that they are apart of.
