Mission Statement
The mission of the Gilpin Historical Society is to collect, preserve and interpret the history of Gilpin County through the use of tangible and photograhic artifacts.
Description
The Gilpin Historical Society is a privately-owned 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization founded in 1970. The Society owns the Gilpin History Museum, an 1870 two-story stone school building, the Thomas House Museum, an 1874 Greek Revival house and the Coeur d'Alene Mine Shaft building.
The Society gererates operating revenue through the collection of admission fees, membership fees, gift shop sales and special events.
In addition to opening the Museum and Thomas House to the public and group tours, we also conduct tours of the Teller House and Opera House, owned by the Central City Opera House Association.
