Mission Statement

MISSION STATMENT

The Asthma Care Center exist to improve the health and wellbeing of persons suffering with asthma, COPD and associated lung diseases by providing the essential elements of chronic disease management: testing, monitoring, medication planning and education. We apply the educational component to patients, providers and other referring entities and partners by addressing the barriers & co-morbid conditions that patients from disadvantaged populations face. And, by advocating for best practice care professionally and in the public policy arena, we are striving to address the critical issues of a population that historically are the highest medical resource utilizers but also statistically have the worst outcomes for their chronic respiratory illnesses.

The Asthma Care Center intends to take the lead in and to cooperate in partnerships with organizations working to alleviate disparities and improve health outcomes in the quality of care for those suffering with respiratory diseases (primarily, but not limited to, asthma) and affiliated conditions (such as childhood obesity) in traditionally disadvantaged populations living in poorly served areas.

We will address the existing, acute need for respiratory management among disadvantaged populations living in poorly served areas and help decrease preventable morbidity and mortality amidst what is considered a current healthcare crisis.

Description

As many people are aware, asthma has reached epidemic proportions in American cities and is disproportionately higher still among minority and low income groups. According to the National Institute for Health and the Center for Disease Control, asthma is a primary reason for hospitalizations in children and one of the leading causes of absenteeism in schools. One can only imagine the negative impact asthma has on the academic success and literacy rates in some populations.

Unfortunately many asthma sufferers believe that the normal management strategy is a periodic or routine crisis intervention at the local hospital ER. This is not only the least cost effective way to manage asthma, it can be a dangerous and sometimes fatal strategy.

Located near the city center at 8532 W Capitol Dr, the Pulmedix Asthma Care Center a Not for Profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of medically under served people suffering the debilitating effects of asthma.

Through comprehensive pulmonary testing, asthma education and medication management, the certified asthma educators at Pulmedix teach their patients how to proactively manage their asthma and regain control of their health.

Pulmedix Asthma Care Center accepts all patients regardless of insurance or financial circustances. Patients unable to afford medications are enrolled in free Prescrition Assistance Programs.

Pulmedix has partnered with the Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center to research the prevalence and condition of asthma within Milwaukee’s underserved / undermanaged asthma populations. Privately funded by the Pharmaceutical Industry, this research project is an additional opportunity for under managed asthma sufferers to get control of their lives instead of just trying to survive from one crisis to the next. Participants who meet the qualifying guidelines will have free asthma management care. All aspects of this research project are covered including travel expenses for the participants.

Since geographic barriers can nearly preclude the underserved / minority populations where the asthma problem is often the most sever, this is a unique research opportunity for both the participants and the populations they represent.
