The Youth Center, Inc. is a non-profit corporation focused on serving the children and families of Adams, Cheshire and Savoy. Our Mission is to provide community-based educational, recreational and social activities in a safe, supportive environment.

Description

he Youth Center, Inc. is celebrating over thirty-two years of providing critical services for the youth and their families in Adams, Cheshire and Savoy. We have grown from a small group of parents that hosted monthly activities to a full-fledged quality Out-of-School Time organization.

A board of directors oversees the direction and programming of Youth Center, Inc. A full-time Executive Director coordinates programs, recruits volunteers, assists with fundraising, and conducts community relations. Part-time staff and volunteers supervise the drop-in center, vacation camps, special event and outreach programming to the schools and communities.

By providing safe, structured, well supervised programs for children when not in school, the Center offers a great service to parents and guardians who are at ease knowing their children are well cared for and are participating in educational enrichment programming.

A direct result of children and teens participating in our programs, the community benefits from lower juvenile crime rates and schools benefit from better academic performance. Children and teens are tutored with their school work and our "homework help" is responsible for the improvement of grades and confidence in many of our participants.
The Youth Center, Inc. has a fully equipped computer lab, game room and lounge which has pool, air hockey and ping pong tables, darts, video and board games and television for those who "drop in" after school. We offer our members and the community an exciting hands-on approach to experimentation and learning through instruction in computer technology and web design, classes in babysitting, karate, visual and performing arts, financial literacy, nutrition, math and science. Weekly our staff dose outreach to the schools in Adams and Cheshire offering age appropriate activities designed to help with each child's healthy development.
Youth Center, Inc. is unique in that it is the only agency of its kind in this area. Although we are a moderate sized organization, we maximize our impact by collaborating with more than thirty area organizations and businesses, through over sixty-five programs, we provide local young people with the opportunity to develop a greater attachment to their community.
