Mission Statement

To provide programs of social protection, education, training and self-sufficiency and advocacy for orphans, disadvantaged children and young adults in Russia; to provide direct humanitarian aid, medicine, food and supplies to orphanages in need; to educate and advocate for the elimination of sexual trafficking of girls and young women from Russia and the former Republics and to assist in their rescue, return and rehabilitation.

MiraMed Institute has been making a difference in Russia since 1991.

Our social protection programs for Russian orphans include humanitarian aid, education and training at MiraMed Centers for Social Adaptation in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Uglich that help orphans re-enter society with the skills they need to live a safe and meaningful life.

Our short and long term volunteer programs give adults from around the world the opportunity to live and work in Russia and make a personal difference.

Our self-sufficiency projects provide income and practical
And our anti-trafficking programs protect Russian girls and young women from being trafficked overseas. MiraMed founded the Angel Coalition, the first and now the largest, most successful anti-trafficking coalition in Russia whose members provide public education and training and support for the rescue, return and rehabilitation of trafficking survivors.

Summer Volunteer Program in Kostroma, Russia

The main focus of the Summer Volunteer program is to provide a Russian/American team of volunteers to live and work in a rural Russian orphanage for 4 weeks during the summer. We have been providing summer volunteers to orphanages for seven years.

The skill sets needed for summer volunteers are markedly different than those needed for internships because you will be working in an isolated environment in a rural Russian town.

PROGRAM FOCUS:


Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), Computer Skills, Computer Repair
Art (Painting, Drawing, etc.), Dance, Acting/Theater, Music, Carpentry, Woodwork/Woodweaving, Crafts, Sewing
Home Repair/Remodeling, Gardening, Athletic

PROGRAM FEE:

Fees paid by volunteers support the Summer Volunteer Program. The cost is $800 for 4 weeks and includes all room and board, transport to the orphanage from Moscow (train and/or bus). Volunteers pay for their own airfare to Moscow and for the required Russia visa (available online). The program fee is further used for supplies, MiraMed staff, translators, etc.

AGE LIMITS, TECHNICAL INFORMATION, DEADLINES:

You must be 21years old (no exceptions) to apply, there is no upper age limit. Married couples are permitted to apply. Coupled or single parents with children over 21 are also permitted to apply. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after you leave Russia . Russian Language Skills are not required.

This year we will be working with an orphanage in the city of Kostroma . It is a beautiful city situated 320 km north of Moscow. We are seeking enthusiastic and energetic people to spend some time with the children of this orphanage teaching a wide range of skills including Carpentry, Woodworking, Gardening, Sewing, Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Dance, Acting, Theater, Sports, Home Repair, Computers, etc.

The Program will run from June 17th to July 17th, 2007.
