I think volunteer outreach organizations offer a convenient opportunity for people to find events and/or causes to support and we really need organizations like this today. Volunteering at Castro Elementary offers almost immediate satisfaction and rewards to anyone who volunteers there. It has been my experience that the children respond very positively to adult interaction and one teacher per 20 more students makes it hard for each child to get the positive reflection and or guidance they often need and deserve. If you want to feel a real life high, come help teach a child to read just one hour a week and or more if you have the time. Or,commit to a month of support with an elementary grade teacher. If that's too constraining, then come staple newsletters every Wednesday morning from 8-8:30AM in the luch room. There's something for anyone who wants to lend a helping hand any time of the day.
