Mission Statement

GirlSource is an energetic not-for-profit production company. Our mission is to increase young women's capacity to lead healthy lives. Through hands-on, paid programs, low-income young women create books and other media-based projects that address young women's self-identified issues, while giving life, leadership and job skills.

Description

We work with low-income young women between the ages of 14 and 18, with a focus on young women of color, immigrant young women, and young mothers. The young women creating the health book and web site are primarily from San Francisco's low-income neighborhoods. Our national outreach and distribution program (Project NOD) will involve young women from communities across the country. Although we address the multiple challenges of these underserved and "unheard" populations, many of the challenges addressed through our young women's health book, web site and distribution project are relevant to all young women.
