Mission Statement

The museum's mission is to enchance the appreciation and enjoyment of the region's heritage.

The museum's purpose is to collect, preserve, exhibit, interpret, and educate using the history and heritage of the region.

Description

The Museum of the Coastal Bend is home to 13,000 years of Texas heritage. We tell the story of the Coastal Bend region from indigenous cultures, through the French settlement at Fort St. Louis and Spanish colonization, to the beginnings of the Texas that we know today.

At MCB, visitors can learn about the region's heritage through interactive experiences such as throwing atlatls (ancient hunting tools) or checking out our archaeology lab. We offer school field trips in which students visit a selection of hands-on activity stations.

MCB volunteers share our history by presenting school programs, assisting with education events, and talking with visitors about the collection.
