Want to be part of the Morning Build Crew? Sign up at volunteer.waterfire.org Morning Build Crew... Help build the braziers (metal baskets on the river) that will set the city alight at sunset. You will get the chance to hop aboard a WaterFire wood boat and help artistically construct the braziers. You will with use cardboard, newspaper and other fire fuse materials in the center of the brazier and build a 'tepee' of firewood around the fire fuse materials. After all braziers on the river are built you will help reload firewood into the six wood boats for the evening feeds. Afterwards enjoy lunch with your crew and the WaterFire staff.. WaterFire ditches plastic water bottles! We eliminated the plastic from constructing the braziers and we want to reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles. We ask that you please bring a reusable water bottle to your shift and you will be able to refill on site. Volunteer Team Requests: If you are unable to make it to your shift, please let me know as soon as possible or unregister on the website. Please be on time for your shift! WaterFire volunteers have the most important role to make a WaterFire lighting possible. WaterFire will go on regardless of the weather, so please plan accordingly. If you are looking for a fun, social opportunity this is the position for you. Be prepared to hand out glow sticks, stickers or other items displayed on the table in return for a donation to keep the fires burning... Our torch processions vary in size from 16 torches to a couple hundred, and they are always different. Some celebrate Chinese culture, some honor veterans or cancer survivors, and some remember local history. Being a Special Ops volunteer helps us ensure these processions go off without a hitch.. * September 30th will be out Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer and Salute to Educators event. * For November 5th we are looking for volunteers to assist with special ops for our "Salute to Veterans" lighting. There will be 300 veterans carrying torches in the basin.. WaterFire Volunteer Attire: All black head to toe, no open toed shoes. Mask optional Suggestion: No large personal items and weather appropriate clothing New! WaterFire ditches the plastic water bottle this season! Last season we eliminated the plastic from constructing the braziers and this season we want to reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles. Boat crews led by Captains and First Mates are responsible for maintaining bonfires and keeping pace with the overall performance. Duties require placing logs onto braziers to rekindle fires, reloading firewood into the boat from under bridges, and working with fellow crew members to uphold the artistic integrity of the installation. This is a quiet performance, symbolizing the affect and influence of a community when individuals work together... For volunteers 18+ only. Sign up here: https://volunteer.waterfire.org/need/detail/?need_id=788554 Visitors to WaterFire can "wish upon a star" of their own at this magical installation in Memorial Park where large blue paper star lanterns are nestled in the treetops of this dark and dreamy grove. Volunteers are needed to help welcome visitors, assist in hanging stars, and placing Luminaria lanterns where they are needed.
