Mission Statement

Leaders in Future Environments (LIFE) Project is a mentoring program which aims to strengthen and promote leadership in youth affected by parental incarceration.

The Centerforce mission is to support, educate, and advocate for individuals, families and communities impacted by incarceration.

The LIFE Project is a mentoring program for youth who have been impacted by the incarceration of a parent or parental figure in their life. The LIFE Project serves youth throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Mentors are expected to spend a minimum of four hours per month with their mentee and all matches attend monthly group events that are seperate from their individual meet up. Group events consist of fun, educational and creative activities which are paired with topics and issues related to incarceration.

This organization and the people that work and volunteer with it are committed to the success of our youth and to providing access to resources that will broaden their opportunities as they grow up. The quality of the relationships that are built between mentors and mentees are life changing and long lasting. Additionally, a great deal of support is provided by the administration to ensure that the matches have what they need to succeed. Growing up with an incarcerated parent is rough, so having a safe space to be able to share dialogue and experiences with other youth and adults that listen with their hearts can make all of the difference.
