Mission Statement

The Friends of the Peoria Public Library, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, inspires a passion for literacy and learning by supporting Peoria's libraries through financial assistance, program activities and community outreach.

We conduct quarterly general membership meetings (January, April, July, October) and hold monthly executive board meetings year around. Our membership fluctuates from 60 to 75, but the active membership is closer to 10 0r 15; sometimes less. We will be celelbrating our 25th anniversary in 2015.

Peoria has two libraries and we support both of them with financial contributions, programs and outreach, although most of our book sale activity focuses on the newer Sunrise Mountain Library in the northern part of the City.

Over the last two years we have expanded the programs we offer (primarily for children) significantly, with program attendance over that period approaching 7,000. We contributed over $50,000 to the libraries during that same period. We operate continuous "recyled reading" sale operations in both libraries and hold several special sales each year.

Our relationships with the City and with the library management and staff are excellent.

While we have been more successful in our support operations than any time in the past, transitions from historical leadership (fluctuating in numbers) to mostly newer members have left us with limited candidates for Executive Board positions and committee chairs. Turning this around is our greatest current need.
