Sara-Lynn Reynolds has spent over 50 years living in the Bristol, Norfolk, Middlesex district.
She learned the value of family and the importance of hard work as the 2nd oldest of 8 children and having spent time as a single parent to her two sons. The essential 'life’ tools she employs in all she does involve collaboration, compassion, empathy, leadership and listening.
Sara was raised in North Attleboro and received all of her education via public schools. After graduating from NAHS she went on to the UMASS, Amherst where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education. From there she returned to her home town of North Attleboro to teach in the Jr. High and coach at both the Jr High and HS.
Her advocacy and leadership abilities came to the forefront when immediately after leaving college she strongly advocated for Title IX dollars for a women’s sport feeder system for Field Hockey, Softball, Basketball and intramural activities at the North Attleboro Jr High School where she was in her first year of teaching. She was instrumental in crafting policies and finances that supported the growth of women sports at both the Jr and Sr High School level.
As the News Director at WARA-AM1320 and Executive Director of the Downtown Attleboro Associates/Attleboro Chamber of Commerce Sara had ample opportunity to view first-hand the struggles of small business owners and families in the greater Attleboro Area. Her investigative skills, thorough and honest reporting along with her advocacy for solutions made her a hometown favorite.
Sara went on to advocate for Tobacco Policy and Regulations as a spokesperson and Regional Field Director for the Mass Department of Public Health under a program led by Dr Gregory Connolly. She, along with support from the Attleboro Board of Health and the Attleboro community, passed the first tobacco control regulations in Massachusetts, supporting better health and control of under-age purchases and second hand smoke around children under the age of 18.
As a Teacher and Regional Field Manager she was known for her compassion towards those students and staff in need of assistance, made important decisions under pressure, and fostered a team environment in order to attain common goals. She has brought the mentoring skills she developed as an older sister and the strength she obtained as a single Mom to everything she has accomplished in both her personal and professional life.
She ran and won one of the five available seats on her first try to the Attleboro City Council as a Councilor at Large, coming in fourth out of 9 candidates. She was appointed as Chairperson of the Personnel & Human Services Committee, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Licenses and as a Member of the Finance Committee.
Sara is most proud of her work in bringing back into place a Personnel Board that had been absent from Attleboro for over 10 years. Resurrecting a Personnel Board that will help employees through discord or job dissatisfaction was the direct result of Sara’s advocacy and tenacity. She also played a key role in requesting that the flow of pertinent information be improved so that the City Council may be better informed as they review those issues that come before them.
During her short time on the City Council, Sara has earned a reputation for being a voice of the people...her hard work, common sense approach and tenacity to do the right thing has led people to admire her gumption for tackling the hard issues. Sara exemplifies the type of leader this State Senate District requires.
She is the proud mother of 2 sons, Derek & Kyle Swenson, mother-in-law to 2 wonderful daughter-in-laws, Taryn & Petra, and is the doting gramma to Annabelle, Alivia, Kyle Jr and Noelle.
