Volunteers with SMART read with first and second graders once a week from Oct to May. The children can choose two books a month to take home and keep. I am in my second year of volunteering with SMART in Salem. It’s rewarding to read with the children, and no special skills are needed...just a love of books! You will not be tutoring but encouraging a love of reading. Consider volunteering with SMART — it’s a wonderful program.
