Mission Statement
The mission of The Collective for Orphan Care and Education is to leverage local resources to improve the health, education and well-being of vulnerable youth living in rural western Kenya
Description
COCE embraces a change strategy utilizing community-driven, strength-based approaches to leveraging local and external resources needed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable youth, including AIDS orphans, living in rural western Kenya. We believe in the value of family and community networks and seek to strengthen their ability to provide for and support youth in accomplishing their goals.
We also believe in the already existing social capital of low-income, rural communities; that with the addition of critical resources, each community has the expertise, power and will to challenge a social problem that previously seemed insurmountable. Thus, COCE seeks to create lasting effects by empowering the most vulnerable members of the community in order to become agents of social change.
