Mission Statement
The goal of Arete Education is to relentlessy pursue our students' true potential. We believe that providing inspiring learning experiences through after-school programming, summer programming, and a local boarding model will help to bridge this experience gap facing students in the South Bronx
Description
The South Bronx is often viewed through the lens of poverty, poor health, and crime. While it is important to tackle these pressing issues, the focus on these problems can obscure the vast untapped potential of children living in the neighborhood.
The concentration of poverty and financial realities of the South Bronx, combined with the absence of enriching academic, social, and career development activities in our community, significantly contributes to the experience gap facing our students.
There is tremendous opportunity fo students in the South Bronx to achieve academic, social, and professional success. Bearing witness to these unmet needs, activists from community schools came together to found an organization that partners with local schools, non-profits, government, and private organizations and individuals to foster student growth through innovative programming.
Arete endeavors to extend the school day and school year to provide intellectually stimulating activities that nurture curiousity and fuel a desire to learn. Innovative classes that inspire students to enjoy learning and reapply themselves to arts, athletic, and academic pursuits include programs like the Arete Summer Arts Institute, as well as Rise of Nations, Step Team, Latin Dance, Electronic Music Composition, Karate, Chess, and Homework Help for our middle school scholars. Arete also offers Peer Tutoring and Job Shadowing programs for our high school scholars.
