Mission Statement

Volunteers In Public Schools

Our mission is to foster student success for every child in East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools by building public support for public education.

Description

EveryBody Reads provides individualized reading assistance to second and third graders in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Students who are reading below grade level receive extra reading assistance with the goal of getting them to read on grade level by the end of the school year.

A volunteer who provides one-on-one reading tutorial assistance to a second or third grader is called a "Reading Friend." Reading Friends commit to work with a child for the entire school year, agreeing to read with that child for 30 to 45 minutes at least twice monthly. Reading sessions take place at the child's school during the regular school day. Many Reading Friends choose to read weekly with their students.

Reading Friends attend a one-hour orientation and submit to a background check before being assigned.
