NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community for hope for all of those in need.
NAMI is the foundation for hundreds of NAMI State Organizations, NAMI Affiliates and volunteer leaders who work in local communities across the country to raise awareness and provide essential and education, advocacy and support group programs AT NO COST.

According to the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Mental Health, one in four adults−approximately 61.5 million
Americans−experiences mental illness in a given
year. One in 17−about 13.6 million−live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder.
Approximately 20 percent of youth ages 13 to 18
experience severe mental disorders in a given year. For ages 8 to 15, the estimate is 13 percent.
Serious mental illness costs America $193.2 billion in lost earnings per year.
NAMIWalks Los Angeles County is a 5K walk held annually to benefit and fund the local programs offerred by the 12 Los Angeles County NAMI affiliates to address the great need.
There are over 87 NAMI Walks held nationally. Our Los Angeles County walk will hold it's 11th annual NAMIwalk on Saturday, October 4, 2014, will draw 1000's of participants.
