Description

Hope and A Home Program Overview

Hope and A Home's name describes our mission:

We support low-income families with children in Washington in creating stable homes for themselves, and we foster the hope that helps them make lasting changes in their lives.

We have fourspecific goals:

§ Quality affordable housing for all,
§ Excellent education and schools for each student,
§ Rewarding employment for teens and adults that builds stability and financial independence, and
§ Family and neighborhood connectedness.

We accomplish these goals through two programs:

§ The Hope and A Home Transitional Housing Program rents 18 apartments for up to three years to homeless and low-income families and mentors parents and children in their journey from homelessness to permanent housing, from educational failure to success in school, and from instability to strong and nurturing family life.

§ The Stay and Thrive Program organizes the neighborhood of 14 th and U Streets and residents living in 164 Section 8 apartments in support of the tenants' desire to stay in their homes and thrive in an increasingly diverse and vibrant community. Stay and Thrive works to enable all residents to benefit from community revitalization and develops opportunities for neighbors of different economic means to establish healthy relationships with one another through activities of mutual interest. Together, Hope and a Home and R Street residents, are working to build an effective network of residents, businesses, and community organizations to sustain a diverse and vibrant community.

Some activities under the Stay and Thrive Program include:

The Work and Thrive Teen Summer Employment Program: For the last three years, our Work and Thrive program has helped neighborhood teens not only get summer jobs but succeed at them. This is done through our award winning job readiness process.

The R Street After School Program provides enrichment activities and homework help for kids ages five and up at no cost to parents.

In partnership with The Voices of R Street Tenant Association Hope and A Home assists in activities to grow association membership, educate residents on tenant rights, and organize tenants to accomplish shared goals
