Mission Statement

Since 1995 the Survivors Fund has been providing subsidized, private, long- term psychotherapy to low-income adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and incest living or working in the New York City area. The Fund is commited to providing access to therapists highly trained and experienced in meeting the unique needs of culterally, racially and sexually diverse low-income adult survivors of CSA. We believe that all survivors deserve access to quality, affordable and culturally relevant services.

Description

Survivors Fund (SF) is a free-standing fund that works through 16 psychotherapists in private practice. Dr. Lena Ross is the clinical director and co-founder. She interviews patients who are referred for long-term therapy. SF networks with several hospitals and community based organization's in NYC with short- term rape crisis and incest centers. e.g., St. Vincint's, Mt. Sinai Med. Center, Long Island Community Hospital et al. Dr. Ross takes low-in come referred patients only, interviews, matches them with a therapist, then arranges the placement with the therapist. Each grant to a survivor is largely paid for by the SF, with a small co-pay asked from the survivor.

Our funds are administered through a fiscal agent, The Westchester Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Janet Capolino is the person who helps with the fund, keeps the books and manages the grants that support us. We are entirely dependent on grants for support.
