Mission Statement

The San Mateo County Association of Grand Jurors (SMCAGJ) is a nonprofit organization composed of former San Mateo County Grand Jurors. The goal of the SMCAGJ is to enhance public awareness, to promote the effectiveness of the Civil Grand Jury system in California generally and in San Mateo County specifically, and to encourage eligible San Mateo County residents to apply for Civil Grand Jury service.

Note: The standing Civil Grand Jury is a citizen watchdog function mandated by the California State Constitution.

It is an investigative body (19 citizens) that assesses the actions and performance of local government - County, cities, special districts, school districts.

Civil Grand Jurors serve a 12 month term from July 1 - June 30.

Description

The SMCAGJ strives to fulfill its mission in a number of ways.

2. It conducts public information sessions about Grand Jury service throughout the County during the annual open recruitment period for each Grand Jury term. These are led by recent Civil Grand Jurors. The schedule for this year is available on its website. Speakers are also available on request throughout the year.
