Kush Inc. is a nonprofit organization specializing in the art of holistic development using the normative formulas of KUSH and STRIVE. KUSH stands for Knowledge, Unity, Self-Reliance, and Healing. STRIVE stands for Sustainable Technologies Reinforcing Indigenous Values and Economics.

KUSH provides vehicles for the international community to partner with local initiatives promoting the vision of the New Sudan that will turn the country's immense racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural diversities into a source of enrichment and strength away from genocidal conflicts.

Description

Dear Volunteer,

Volunteers are an invaluable Lifeline of Support to KUSH. As a Washington based 501 c (3) non-profit, KUSH is partnering with the people of Abyei, a community at the strategic North-South border of Sudan. This partnership seeks to rebuild the area of Abyei in the image of the New Sudan by establishing a Model Settlement for the returnees who were displaced by the second civil war, which started on May 16 1983 and concluded with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed January 9, 2005. The project begins with the construction of Model Homesteads, a holistic water management system and a community service program aimed at self-reliance.

In Abyei, the vision of a New Sudan is in large part pinned on a credible implementation of the CPA and realization of the rights granted. In particular, the people of Abyei are awaiting the right to decide by referendum their political status as well as the right to a 2% share of the oil revenues from their area. So far, KUSH has successfully secured international partners like Solace International, Catholic Relief Services and the Hilton Foundation to contribute vital resources to the Model Settlement and Model Homestead Project. The needs are tremendous.

If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of others, while striving for enlightened fulfillment and spiritual satisfaction then KUSH is the right place for you to volunteer. If you are interested in applying a cutting edge philosophy to community development and humanitarian assistance that encourages self-reliance and mutual cooperation rather than aid and dependency, then contact our Campaign Office today.

The Campaign Office is charged with the responsibility of raising awareness and acquiring donations, grants, sales of KUSH Art & Books, In-Kind Goods and technical experts to go to Abyei, Sudan and facilitate training workshops / seminars. Your service will empower KUSH and the Friends of KUSH community to successfully implement the Model Settlement and Model Homestead Project by the end of 2009, as the new home of 600 families, who are accessing on a daily basis clean drinking water and sanitation systems. In addition, this model when proven effective could help inform how we deal with the needs of returnees more generally.

Enclosed is the volunteer agreement form, which must be filled out and returned to the Campaign Office. Also please enclose your resume so that we are able to appropriately place you within our program. Appropriate placement helps to ensure that your skills and talents are put to the best use and that you are able to gain a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment from your work. The information you provide will be reviewed and kept confidential. In addition to completing the forms mentioned above, you will need to participate in an orientation and training session before being certified as a KUSH volunteer.

Please email your completed and signed forms to volunteer@kushworld.org , bring it to the campaign office, or mail it to PO Box 8488 Silver Spring, MD 20907, USA. If you have any questions, please call our office at 1-800-810-KUSH.

Sincerely,

A puk Ayuel
