What to do with yourself?... that makes you feel better and also helps to keep the garden maintained! Join volunteers and know you are helping PHIG and your community! Our vision is building PHIG into a community recognized resource with a sustainable demonstration garden, practicing water conservation, ecological sound principles, and training others in transforming their own neighborhoods and communities. What was a community eyesore is being transformed into a natural and beautiful wildlife habitat that attracts birds, insects, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, that is registered with the National Wildlife Federation, and is a waystation for migrating monarch butterflies as well as migratory birds. PHIG provides a living laboratory for all students, of all ages, including students at the Pleasant Hill Education Center and Contra Costa County Master Gardeners. To attract birds, butterflies, and insects with a year-around wildlife habitat. PHIG uses no pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers that degrade our air, soil, and water quality. PHIG is also simply a place to sit, relax and enjoy nature.

Join fellow gardeners working in the garden, ongoing, usually on Sunday mornings. This water conservation garden demonstrates native plants and uses no herbicides and pesticides to provide wildlife habitat. We always can use an extra pair of hands to help with pruning, chipping, weeding, composting, mulching, raking, and other garden maintenance. We also need someone who can stop by the garden during the week to observe and record both wildlife activity and human activity, taking photographs and keep a log for us, which we’ll use for our web site, blog and Facebook. During the Shelter in Place being in a garden, being outdoors, and especially in a wildlife habitat helps to relieve stress and boredom. At the same time, know you are helping PHIG and your community! We practice social distancing and ask you to stay at home if you are not feeling well. Please bring your own face mask, water, gloves, and if you prefer, hand sanitizer. We do have soap and water on hand.
