Mission Statement

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey Counties is a community-based civilian volunteer program which utilizes both medical and non-medical volunteers to support the public health infrastructure of our communities and prepare for roles in disaster related response.

Description

The Western Nevada MRC coordinated by Carson City Health and Human Services is actively recruiting MRC volunteers (MEDICAL and NON-MEDICAL) in four counties including: Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey. We are coordinating efforts to build a stronger more coordinated unit to meet the needs of Western Nevada. Currently we have approximately 175 volunteers who assist with activities including school-based Flu vaccinations, Points of Dispensing (POD) preparedness exercises, staffing First-Aid booths for community events and reaching out to at-risk populations who need no-cost vaccinations. The Western Nevada MRC is fast becoming a valuable community resource as all MRC volunteers are pre-identified, pre-registered and prepared to respond to an emergency. The Western Nevada MRC offers various applicable training opportunities for volunteers to meet national requirements including ICS and NIMS training, in addition to Pet First Aid, Psychological First Aid, Animals in Disaster, POD (Points of Distribution) and Communications training.
