Mission Statement

To promote success in life, academics, campus and community involvement while celebrating our culture and cultivating a sense of black unity amongst the entire East Carolina Student Body. We will educate, uplift, and empower ALL students while preserving the heritage of African-American culture by providing programs and services that are relevant to community and global issues.

Description

The Black Student Union is the largest student organization at East Carolina University. We welcome students of all backgrounds and cultures but put an emphasis on our own in regards to our personal issues and concerns. Every year we join with PICASO (Pitt County AIDS Service Organization) to raise awareness about the existence of the AIDS virus as well as the importance of being educated about the global prominence of AIDS. We organize and perform an AIDS Benefit Fashion Show in which we train and teach volunteers the basics of modeling and choreography. The event is free but we welcome any donations given as they will be used to fund AIDS research, treatment for AIDS patients, and support families suffering from the effects of AIDS. This event is the heart of BSU and we would love to have you all help us! Thank you so much for your time.
