Mission Statement
Our mission is to protect the children in the Sen Sok community of Phnom Penh from sexual exploitation, physical abuse, drugs and crime, through a structured, holistic education. We support pragmatic solutions through structured education that enable children to break free of the cycle of poverty.
Description
Children for Change, Cambodia is a local, educational non-profit organization, registered with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior. We work in the Sensok area of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and our 93 students hail from the three communities of Beiklouksung, Boeung Chhuk, and Boueng Taloukbek. The communities are known for their acute deprivation and high rates of crime and drug abuse. At mid-afternoon, the communities transform into one of Phnom Penh’s poorest red light districts.
Our mission is implemented through two scholarship programs: the Academic Bridge Program (ABP) and the Bridging the Gap Program(BtG). ABP serves students in grades 1-5. In this program, students attend daily classes at the center where they are taught subjects according to the Cambodian government curriculum. As many of our students have never experienced formal education and have fallen behind their age groups, academically, ABP provides an accelerated education that introduces the students to the expectations of a formal educational environment and allows the students to catch up to their peers. Students graduate from ABP into the BtG scholarship program, which pays for government schooling for students in grades 6-12. After government school, our students attend free study group sessions at our center as well as daily English language classes.
