Mission Statement

The mission of Springfield College is to educate students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others. As members of the Springfield College Student Success Corps, students live and share this mission, engaging in service that meets the critical educational needs of Springfield youth. Members serve in Springfield pre-schools, middle schools, and high schools, where they facilitate interventions and identify resources that target risk factors for dropping out, including poor early literacy skills, low attendance, behavioral problems, and course failure in English and math.

Description

The AmeriCorps Program at Springfield College recruits AmeriCorps members to support the academic and social-emotional success of students in the Springfield Public Schools.

The AmeriCorps School Turnaround Initiative will place members in the city’s highest need schools in an effort to improve school and student performance. The Academic Support Specialist will serve in an elementary, middle, or high school, providing tutoring in math and/or English and implementing targeted interventions to improve academics, behavior, and attendance.
