Mission Statement

En Foco is a non-profit organization that nurtures and supports contemporary photographers of African, Asian, Latino, Native American and Pacific Islander heritage. Founded in 1974, it achieves its mission by introducing artists to local communities and a national audience, creating a cultural synergy with the general public, curators and arts professionals.

Description

Programs include the bilingual Nueva Luz photographic journal, published 3x/year (English/Spanish); the annual New Works Photography Awards program, providing photographers with a stipend to create new works and a New York venue in which to exhibit; Touring Gallery exhibitions, featuring works by emerging photographers in community and accessible spaces (4 solo exhibitions per year); the photographer's Image Library, a visual resource for curators, book researchers, educators and students; Print Collectors Program, making photographs by incredible artists available for purchase; Permanent Collection, featuring over 460 prints by photographers that have been involved with our programs over the past three decades; and a Workshop Series, to nurture and empower those seeking knowledge to grow their artistic careers.
