Mission Statement
The mission of the Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars is to provide scholarships, which help support, promote and encourage the continuing education and goals of high school seniors. Description
The Wethersfield Citizens Scholarship Foundation, now known as "Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars," was founded in 1974 by Dr. Philip Sehl and Mr. Felix Babel to provide one-time scholarships to graduating seniors who live in Wethersfield and plan to pursue any form of post-secondary education. This nonprofit organization is managed by volunteers and funded entirely by donations from local residents and businesses. Scholarships are based primarily on financial need (using National Dollars for Scholars Guidelines), academic accomplishment, and community service, although some awards specify distinct selection criteria. Over 95 percent of all available funds are distributed to students. Since its founding, Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars has awarded over $2,426,400 in scholarships to more than 2,961 students. During the 2012-2013 academic year, the Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars distributed $115,600 to 160 graduating seniors from Wethersfield.
