Mission Statement

World Lung Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of individuals across the world by strengthening community capacity to prevent and manage lung disease. Our efforts are focused in low- and middle-income countries, where lung diseases take their greatest toll.

Description

Ten million people die from lung disease every year; many of those deaths are completely preventable. World Lung Foundation was established in 2004 to address this global epidemic. We work in low and middle-income countries and our two main focus areas are tobacco control and air quality.

World Lung Foundation collaborates with governments, health professionals, and civil society to help them fully understand the health problems and challenges they face, and to provide them with the training and tools they need to reduce the major causes of lung disease. We educate the public, support research, build local capacity, and advance public policy.

World Lung Foundation is a global leader in creating effective large-scale public education campaigns that move people from awareness to action for tobacco control. We use images that graphically depict the physical damage caused by smoking as this approach has been proven to be effective in promoting quitting and catalyzing support for tobacco control policies.

We also partner with the American Cancer Society to publish The Tobacco Atlas, now in its 4 th edition, a vivid portrayal of the complex nature of tobacco control, with global statistics, costs, and solutions.
