Hospice volunteers are valued members of the hospice interdisciplinary team and are considered the heart of hospice care.
After completion of a 30 hour training offered in the spring and fall, hospice volunteers provide an average of 4 hours per week of non-medical aid and support to patients and families, including the following:
companionship and emotional support to patients and caregivers
respite care to allow caregivers time for themselves
compassionate listening, life review, assistance with light household chores
grief support following the death of a loved one
Opportunities include the possibility of providing care in patient's homes and/or at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, as well as receiving on-going supervision/support and continuing education offerings.
