Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
World change starts with educated children. Focusing on literacy and gender equality in education we ambitiously raise funds from the Puget Sound community to transform the lives of millions of children in the developing world.
The Seattle Chapter of Room to Read is a group of volunteers who fundraise for and raise awareness of Room to Read's programs in the Puget Sound community. Room to Read is a global organization seeking to transform the lives of millions of children in the developing world by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
Founded on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children, Room to Read works in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations, and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and to ensure girls have the skills and support needed to complete their secondary education. Since 2000, Room to Read has impacted the lives of more than five million children in Asia and Africa and aims to reach 10 million children by 2015. Room to Read has 50+ chapters in cities across the world and depends on its chapter leaders and chapter members to help achieve its annual fundraising goal and to represent Room to Read.
The Seattle Chapter raises funds by partnering with local organizations and venues to host fun events. One common event we host is Beers for Books: grab all your friends, head to the local bar that's hosting, and for every beer you drink, $1 gets donated to Room to Read. That's enough to print one local-language children's book: 1 beer = 1 book!
