Mission Statement

The Greenville Symphony Association is dedicated to providing educational and cultural opportunities for the citizens of Greenville and surrounding communities through the presentation of live orchestral music. Offering excellence in live musical performances, the orchestra enriches lives, educates minds and encourages community support of the arts.

Description

Founded in 1948, GSO is a leader in the cultural community of the Upstate, setting the standard for professional excellence and active engagement with is residents, local government and community-based organizations. Each season, GSO will conduct over 26 major performances. The orchestra also provides accompaniment for the Greenville Ballet, Greenville Chorale and visiting artists performing at the Peace Center. Now in its eleventh year of service, GSO's Education Outreach Program provides free music education for children, both in the community and in the classroom. GSO's interactive approach to music education was recently recognized in a national awards competition. The American Symphony Orchestra and the Bank of America presented GSO with its 2005 Award for Excellence in Orchestra Education. As the only professional symphony orchestra based in Greenville, GSO's services in the community are not duplicated nor replicated by other local cultural arts organizations.
