Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The Baltimore Improv Group (BIG) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group dedicated to advancing the art of improvisational theatre in the greater Baltimore area through an active program of performance, instruction, and outreach.
BIG produces 4-5 improv shows a month throughout Baltimore as well as producing the Baltimore Improv Festival each August. The Festival was founded in 2007.
BIG operates sessions of seven week long classes throughout the year from Intro through Advanced, as well as special classes. BIG is available for hire for private shows & workshops as well as corporate training. We have also performed at fundraising events for local charities such as: Earl’s Place, Business Volunteers United, and the Children’s Inn at the NIH, as well as doing outreach at public and private schools in the Baltimore area.
BIG is made up of five mainstage troupes: Gus, Lekker, Plan B, Population: 6 & Training for Prom. In addition we currently have nine special projects that are performing regularly and experimenting with new styles of improv: from puppets to body painting to full length improvised plays to bringing audience members on stage.
Besides performing regularly in a variety of theaters around Baltimore, BIG has performed annually at the Baltimore Museum of Art as part of Baltimore’s Free Fall, and as part of Artscape. Troupes from BIG have been invited performers at Festivals in D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, Austin, TX, and NYC. .
Improvised Theater means there is no script. The improvisors create characters, locations, actions, and dialogue based entirely on audience suggestions.
