Since 1998, more than 4,000 un- and underemployed adults (18+ years old) have enrolled in its IT-Support job training and placement programs in New York City, Columbus and Cincinnati, OH, Atlanta, GA, Silver Springs, MD, and Dallas, TX. Today, the graduates work in hundreds of corporations, small businesses, nonprofits and government agencies. The Social Impact Exchange recently named us one of the top 100 nonprofits creating proven social impact in the U.S.

Description

Per Scholas is a national nonprofit organization that breaks the cycle of poverty by providing technology education, access, training and job placement services for people in low-income communities.

Founded in 1994 as a neighborhood-based effort to increase access to personal computers, Per Scholas was an early pioneer in bridging the digital divide for families and children in the South Bronx -- the nation’s poorest Congressional District.

Now, continuing this formative work, we operate the state-licensed Per Scholas Institute for Technology, the largest and oldest professional IT workforce development program in New York City, and embarked on an ambitious national expansion with a new locations in Columbus and Cincinnati, OH, Atlanta, GA, Silver Springs, MD, and Dallas, TX. serving close to 800 individuals a year. More than 500 individuals are served each year in NY alone -- 4,000 in our history -- and our outcomes resulted in Per Scholas being named one of the top 100 high-impact nonprofits in America.

We are grateful for the support we receive from many partners, including some of the nation’s leading foundations and corporations. We work closely with elected and appointed government officials and public agencies, as well as a large network of other community service providers. More than 250 volunteers contribute to our work each year.
