Mission Statement

The ACA's mission is to empower people with limb loss through education, support, and advocacy. Right now, many amputees are being denied access to an artificial limb. They pay their premiums into private insurance companies, but then those same companies refuse to cover the cost of the prosthesis they need to be active and independent. This is just plain wrong! The Amputee Coalition of America is working to address this issue in Congress. The Prosthetic Parity Act of 2008 would require insurance companies to cover prosthetic care on par with other basic, medical services. No special provisions. It is common sense legislation that deserves to be passed into law.

Description

Founded in 1986, the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) provides information and support to people with limb loss, their families and healthcare providers across the U.S. Our volunteers are a big part of our advocacy work. We have a monthly volunteer night as well as special events. Dinner and refreshments are provided at each volunteer night. We also have a volunteer recognition program. Volunteers who participate in three volunteer opportunities will receive a free movie ticket!
