Mission Statement

he annual Malibu Film Festival scheduled April 13-16, 2007 in Malibu California, is widely recognized as a prestigious showcase for American and international independent film. Focusing on new films and filmmakers for programming, the Festival has grown to include film premieres, panel discussions, youth programs, online exhibition, fashion shows and live music. Attended by people from around the world each year, the Malibu Film Festival creates a vibrant, unique community of artists and audiences that extends well beyond the beaches of Malibu to a global audience. Established in 1997. "Of the 23,814 theater screens in America, perhaps none is more quietly important than the Malibu Cinema." - The Wall Street Journal The Malibu Film Festival offers a chance to screen your film in Malibu, California, where roughly 20% of Academy Award voters and many industry decision makers reside. Filmmakers are granted paid transportation and ocean view lodging (on an as-available basis), and Malibu Film Festival will contact distributors on behalf of interested award winning films. Power players IndieVest & 20th Century Fox were major sponsors of the 2006 Gala, and the list of fest attendees reads like a Who's-Who of Hollywood. Past Malibu honorees represent varied talents and industry niches; alumni include Pierce Brosnan, James Cameron, Shirley MacLaine, Charles Bronson, Brett Ratner, and John Frankenheimer. Guests in years past include Sean Penn, Chris Kattan, Adam Sandler, Tom Petty, Merv Griffin, Andy Dick, Talia Shire, Jessica Alba, Daryl Hannah, Robert Evans, and many more Hollywood heavyweights. Malibu's 2006 Best Documentary Filmmaker, Cesario Montano's film RISING SON went on to screen at Cannes and was picked up for major distribution with a theatrical release date later this year. Numerous films - including MAD HOT BALLROOM, HOOLIGANS, and THE OH IN OHIO - have held their World, West Coast, or Los Angeles premieres at The Malibu International Film Festival.
