The New School for Community Service will provide a non-traditional, but proven program leading to a public high school diploma and higher education or training for its participants.

Description

The New School for Community Service is an innovative, city-wide high school serving 135 11th and 12th grade students. The school is entering its 12th year and is committed to providing a quality high school education in a small school atmosphere. It is the only high school in the district offering community-based learning internships as the core of the program. Over the last 11 years, it has built a powerful network of private businesses, community-based organizations, governmental units, and schools that serve as learning resource sites for our students. Internships offer credit-earning opportunities in art, business, computer education, language arts, science, social studies, and technical education. In addition to the internship program, the New School offers a menu of in-house classes taught by our staff of eight teachers, a variety of computer-based course offering including PLATO, APEX (Advanced Placement on-line), and Virtual High School. New School is a fully inclusive school for students with special needs.
