Wagfest 2024

Wagfest is a day-long festival that includes food trucks, beer garden, dog friendly activities, shopping, and raffles! Raffle prizes include animal-themed gift baskets, gift certificates to local restaurants and retailers, a wheelbarrow of booze and a tower of beer, as well as a huge variety of prizes for both people and pets alike. FREE to attend!

Housekeeping

Housekeeping volunteers help wash and dry copious amounts of towels, toys, blankets, sheets, beds, comforters and more! They also wash dishes, Kongs and other utensils used by staff and volunteers to care for our shelter pets. The purpose of this activity is to ensure each shelter pet has a clean bowl to eat their meal out of and a soft, clean blanket to lay their head on each night and clean toys to play with each day. Our housekeeping volunteers are the core of EBHS.

Dog Enrichment and Life Skills

To enrich and enhance the lives of our shelter dogs by providing opportunities for them to engage in natural behaviors, pique their curiosity and encourage them to them to think, sniff and problem solve; all while keeping a calm and quiet kennel environment . Some of the exercises volunteers will learn include quiet the kennels , 4-on-the-floor, targeting work and more. These life skills will help prepare our shelter dogs to live successfully in their forever homes . *This volunteer activity is the pre-requisite to the Dog Walking activity within EBHS. Those who wish to move on to Dog Walking must complete 20 hours of Dog Enrichment & Life Skills volunteering and complete an observational handling session, shadowing session and quiz.

Meal Prep

Feeding time at the shelter is often the most exciting for our shelter pets and is essential to their overall wellbeing. Meal preparation volunteers prepare evening meals for our shelter pets. In addition, we use this time to provide enrichment to our shelter pets through their food. By making it more challenging, like putting kibble in a puzzle feeder, the pets have to think about how to get their meal. This burns mental calories resulting in relaxed and content pets ready for a good night’s sleep!
