Hospice is a special kind of care designed to provide comfort care as well as spiritual and emotional support for people during a very critical and sacred part of their life journey. Hospice focuses on enhancing the quality of life, rather than length of life. It neither hastens nor postpones death; it affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. The hospice program stresses human values that go beyond the physical needs of the patient. Hospice ensures that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort.

Heartland Hospice's program uses a team approach to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. This team includes the medical director, attending physician, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, spiritual counselors, bereavement counselors, and volunteers.

Our Hospice Volunteers are orientated to the Hospice Program so they can understand the philosophy and goals. This enables the volunteers to have the skills needed to assist patients and their families. Our volunteers love:
