To improve the lives of high-needs youth using art as the vehicle for self-expression, self-confidence, and hope for the future.
Van Go, Inc. is an arts-based social service agency that provides year-round after-school and summer job-training programs to high-needs and under-served youth, ages 14-21. Using art as the vehicle, Van Go delivers constructive activities to youth at risk for drug and alcohol use, teen pregnancy, truancy or delinquency.
Van Go has over 100 employment opportunities for qualifying Douglas County teens and young adults each year. JAMS (Jobs in the Arts Make Sense) pays qualifying teens, ages 14 to 18, to create permanent, public works of art. Participants gain job training, life skills, social support, a creative outlet and self-confidence. The Arts Train helps out-of-school youth, ages 18 to 21, transition to adulthood through commissioned artwork, social services and job placement.
A 2012 study revealed:
91% of participants felt that working at Van Go prepared them for future employment
85% of participants report being more prepared to find a job after working at Van Go
82% of participants felt an increase in self-confidence due to Van Go’s efforts
87% of participants report that Van Go made them more responsible
94% of participants felt their life was made better by working at Van Go
