Description

The East Oakland Boxing Association (EOBA) is an non-profit youth development organization, founded by Stanley Garcia in 1987. Since then, the East Oakland Boxing Association and Smartmoves Program has provided free services to over 20,000 children and youth ages 6-20.

In addition to fitness training and boxing, the EOBA Smartmoves Program provides free tutoring, mentoring, computer skills, nutrition education, arts and enrichment activities for children ages 6-13. Typically, there are more than 50 youth that attend the Smartmoves Program daily. We are a year round program that operates Monday through Friday from 3pm-6pm during the school year and Monday through Friday 11am-5pm during the summer months.

The summer program focuses on a rounded education with academics in the morning, a healthy and nutritious lunch provided by the City of Oakland Summer Lunch Program, arts and enrichment activities, field trips, and gardening in which the youth learn to nurture plants and how to eat well. Youth also have the opportunity to bring fresh fruits and vegetables home to share with their families.
