Chelsea Opera provides opportunities for artists to advance their craft in a professional setting with chamber orchestra in New York City. Modest in scale yet offering high performance values, the company operates in an intimate performing space in a landmark church in Chelsea. Its productions of fully staged operas are engaging, affordable and accessible to a broad spectrum of the community. Intensely interested in attracting first-time audiences, the company is committed to creating pre-performance programs and activities for adults, and structured educational outreach programs coupled with live performances for New York City school children.

Description

Chelsea Opera produces two fully staged/costumed opera with chamber orchestra annually in addition to several "Chelsea Opera presents..." concerts. Mainstage erformances are in the intimate and historic St. Peter's Church in Chelsea and concerts at Christ & St. Stephen's Church. The company was founded by singers who desire that the organization's culture be one of encouragement and appreciation. Principal singers, orchestral players and some production staff receive a modest honorarium. Ensemble singers and some production staff are all volunteers. The company has been favorably reviewed by both Opera News and The New York Times.
