Description

The mission of the LAJS is to perform serious orchestral works of known, as well as not commonly recognized Jewish composers; establish opportunities for the presentation of new compositions by Jewish artists; serve as a professional resource for aspiring Jewish and non-Jewish musicians; and act as an educational medium for Jewish music and composers.

The LAJS chooses a repertoire that spans the richness of Jewish music throughout the centuries to the present time. Annually, the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony performs orchestra concerts, each with its own theme often inspired by a holiday or Jewish event; numerous mini concerts or community events that are free to the public; and music appreciation educational programs for children in local schools.

We at the LAJS hope to strengthen our link to the Greater Los Angeles community through an enhanced program of volunteers. We seek motivated, enthusiastic volunteers who love music and are interested in learning more about Jewish culture, and would like to help us build a world-class orchestra in Southern California rooted in the unique musical tradition of the Jewish experience. No musical education is necessary, and you certainly don't have to be Jewish. You can contribute in any number of ways, from assisting us on concert days to helping get the word out about our performances, to helping us in the office with our marketing and development initiatives.
