Mission Statement
Mission:
The mission of the Friends of the Tropical Science Center is to support the environmental, social, educational and scientific work of the Tropical Science Center of Costa Rica and its partners. Founded in 1962, the non-profit mission of the Tropical Science Center is the generation, acquisition, application and dissemination of knowledge in order to achieve the conservation of natural resources and the harmonious relationship of mankind with its environment, mainly in the Tropical and Subtropical Zones.
Description
Headquartered in D.C., but with a regional office in San Francisco and Costa Rica, Friends of the TSC is a global alliance dedicated to advancing the work of the Tropical Science Center (TSC) of Costa Rica. The TSC is one of the first conservation groups in Central America and was declared a Public Interest Organization by the government of Costa Rica. With over 40 years of experience, the TSC helps formulate environmental government policies, and has helped establish several public and private protected areas, including the world famous Monteverde Cloudforest Preserve. Their important work also includes applied scientific research, biodiversity conservation, tropical forest management, ornithology, environmental economics, creating biological corridors, advancing sustainable development strategies, certification of carbon emission offsets, environmental education, participatory community programs, natural tropical medicine, endangered species, rainforest protection, and much more!
