Mission Statement

PowerMyLearning (PML) helps students in low-income communities, together with their teachers and families, harness the power of digital learning to improve educational outcomes. PML leverages technology to enable: students to take charge of their learning; teachers to make learning more engaging within the classroom and to extend learning beyond the classroom and into the home; parents to become more powerful learning partners with their children and to enhance the home learning environment. We start from the perspective of the student at the center of the learning process with the teacher and the parent in supporting roles. We then harness the power of digital learning process; we curate the best digital learning activities available so that students, families, and teachers can have a trusted source for selecting these resources.

Description

PML-New York City partners with NYC low-income public middle schools, through our Digital Learning Program, to offer a free computer-based home learning center to every sixth grade student and their family. We load the computers with Microsoft Office, educational software designed to engage children in Math, English, Social Studies and Science, and free technical support for the life of the computer. In addition, we provide access to affordable broadband access. Both students and their parents are required to attend a half day of training that teaches them how to use their home learning center.
