Mission Statement

QMAD -Queens Media Arts Development- is a non profit cultural organization that produces and implements programs in the arts and communications media to encourage Queen's multicultural communities to actively participate in the forging of an artistic identity for the Borough.

Based on one of the city's most diverse areas, QMAD acknowledges the artistic potential of the various communities of Queens and facilitates access to educational activities, cultural events and resources so residents participating in the various programs can gain agency in their creative and artistic goals.

Description

History
Created by Film-Video-New Media Maker, Hector Canonge, and Architect-Designer, Gonzalo Casals, QMAD was incorporated in 2005 as a cultural-educational 501c3 organization.

In partnership with cityXposed, a monthly literary event where writers present their work, QMAD is presenting Art Component, media presentations inviting artists residing in Queens to present their videos and multimedia projects in various venues around the city.

For December, and coinciding with World AIDS Day, QMAD is organizing [FRAMING AIDS], a program designed to contextualize the re-emergent world wide concern about the AIDS Pandemic, and its effects on populations around the globe. The program consists of screening of films and a poster exhibition at Elmhurst Hospital Auditorium and Gallery. The event also includes online Multimedia Projects that interactively narrate stories, present information, and facilitate a better understanding of the pandemic.
