Join us for an exciting day at the Grand Junction FIRST LEGO League Challenge Qualifier on Saturday, November 16th at Fruita Monument High School in Durango! We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make this event a success. FIRST LEGO League Challenge introduces children ages 9-14* to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through fun and exciting hands-on learning. Participants engage in real-world problem-solving as part of a guided, global robotics program. They work together to build a better future while developing valuable skills. This program combines the challenge of a robotics competition with inventing solutions to real-world problems. Team members gain experience in STEM and learn essential life and work skills along the way. At the heart of the program are the FIRST Core Values, which emphasize teamwork, inclusion, discovery, and innovation. These values teach participants that friendly competition and collaboration go hand in hand, and that helping others is the key to success. Volunteers are essential to making these events happen! The upcoming FIRST LEGO League Challenge events need volunteers to help students demonstrate their creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills through LEGO-based robotics challenges. Volunteer opportunities include roles such as: Judges (presentation and robot performance judging) Referees (monitoring matches and enforcing rules) Field reset (helping prepare the field between rounds) Crowd control, safety glasses attendant, and more! Some roles require a full or multi-day commitment (e.g., judging, refereeing), while others are perfect for those with only a few hours to spare, like field reset or crowd control. Why volunteer with FIRST? Make a lasting impact on young people's lives Help students discover the excitement of science and technology Give young minds the chance to apply real-world math and science concepts Network with like-minded professionals who share a passion for STEM Celebrate innovation and problem-solving in a fun, high-energy environment How to volunteer for a Colorado FIRST LEGO League Challenge: Register as a volunteer with FIRST at firstinspires.org. If you’re new, choose "Sign Up," or if you’re a returning volunteer, simply "Login." Once logged in, go to Volunteer Registration and then choose Event Volunteering.
