The four overarching goals of Project OKURASE are to develop:
-a model for job and skills training for youth, young adults and women in the arts and building industry
-a model for family and village-based formal education for nursery through senior high school with special emphasis on education of girls
-a family-based model of caring for orphans and vulnerable children that does not involve institutionalization
-a model for sustainable architecture and building
Description
It is the hope from everyone involved with Project OKURASE that we can develop a model that can be replicated in communities around the world with the central focus for the center being on green design, sustainable architecture, job and skills training, family and village-based formal education, and a family-based model for caring for children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Project Okurase was established through the help of Gethsemani Circle of Friends, the Medical University of South Carolina and Nkabom Artist and Craftspeople Association.
