Mission Statement

The so called Banso land is found in the grass fields of Cameroon in the North West Region and is home to a most respected, adored and honored cultural heritage. The area is made up of several tribes, all of them having identical traditional languages and beliefs and are people known to be talented and hardworking, especially in the areas of music, art and craftwork. Due to difficulties faced in lack of new knowledge, education and clear direction, the cultural expressions and creations of this region have not yet been able to reach a broader scene but have been limited to its local audience, something that has had a somewhat discouraging effect on young artists and their dreams. The Kailan Foundation was created in the purpose to boost and to keep these dreams alive.

We believe that through these dreams and through the creative process many of the difficulties and social problems faced by young people today in the region could be reduced. Through providing creative and developmental activities and meeting points, problems like unemployment, drug abuse, teen pregnancies, prostitution and discrimination could be tackled.

The Kailan Foundation works to:

  • Assist underprivileged youth in achieving a career in music and art
  • Provide and develop trainings within music, theatre, arts and crafts
  • Arrange concerts, exhibitions and competitions
  • Support local art- and music youth groups
  • Identify, promote and encourage upcoming talents
  • Develop a socially sustainable market for music and art from Banso land
  • Assist and support the marketing of CDs, art and craftworks from Banso land
  • Promote cultural diversification through music and art in Banso land

The Kailan Foundation for Cultural and Youth Empowerment is a voluntary, apolitical and non-profit making developmental association. The foundation has setup a combined recording- and arts/crafts studio in Kumbo which is the only recording studio in this part of the country with more than 15 thousand inhabitants. We have been able to afford some recording equipment with the help of a sponsor based in the United States and have been able to come quite far with the knowledge and dedication of the active members in our group but we are now in a state where we find ourselves in great need of outside expertise.

We are looking for volunteers who are as passionate about art and music as we are, and who a want to share their knowledge and help us to develop further. We are especially in need of audio and video engineers with experience in; sound recording, editing, mixing, beat making (using either software or live instrument) but also dedicated musicians and artists that feel that they have something that they would like to share with others.

If you are interested in knowing more about us or the volunteer assignment please write to us on kailanfoundation@gmail.com
